If you’re thinking about dental implants, you definitely don’t want to be feeling buyer’s remorse after the procedure. To give you a clear idea of what you’re getting into with dental implants, we sat down with Kerry, a Nuvia patient who got his dental implants 4 years ago. Common Problems With Dental Implants
Kerry recalls a few short-term problems with his dental implants during the first week or so of healing and getting used to them. Here is what he shared:
Speech
"One thing that did concern me when I first got my implants was my speech. I got a little tongue tied once in a while, and it was concerning," he explained. “I really was worried about having a lisp or or getting tongue tied cause for the first two days or so, I really caught myself getting tongue tied.”
For Kerry, and other dental implant patients, this concern was short-lived. “Trust me, it goes away. Your body adjusts to it, your mouth adjusts to it, your tongue will adjust to it. You can speak clearly. I was nervous about that at first, but it went away within a week. I didn't even notice that I'd forgotten about it.”
Discomfort
Although dental implants are an out-patient procedure, the mouth and jaw has a lot of recovering to do. Most patients are able to manage any discomfort they have after the procedure with over-the-counter pain medications or pain relief prescribed by the dentist. Kerry was made aware of what to expect after surgery and wasn’t surprised that a bit of discomfort was among the few problems with dental implants that he experienced.
“There was some discomfort for a few days... Day three was probably the worst, but I dealt with that with Ibuprofen and Tylenol".
Other Minor Problems with Dental Implants
Having enjoyed dental implants for 4 years now, Kerry mentioned having a difficult time remembering any other problems with dental implants that he experienced. “Any issues I might have had were so minor, they're hard for me to recall four years later, but NUVIA took care of them right away”.
Some patients may develop a gap between their fake teeth and gums once they have been able to heal for some time. This was the same for Kerry. However, this isn’t unexpected and Nuvia was able to quickly resolve the gap. “Today, I have no gapping. I don't get any food stuck back there. Even when I water pick, it's rare that I get anything out of my mouth that doesn't come out with regular brushing”.
The Payoff of Dental Implants
Despite these initial problems, Kerry emphasizes the significant benefits that outweighed his temporary discomfort.
Quality of Life
"Literally within a few weeks, I was back eating things that I hadn't been able to eat in years because I could actually chew food again," he shares. This improvement in quality of life is a common theme among those who choose to get dental implants.
Those with poor dental health or missing teeth often miss out on getting to eat their favorite foods due to pain or the inability to chew properly. Dental implants make it possible for patients to enjoy all of the foods they want to eat, no longer limited by their teeth.
Additionally, with Nuvia dental implants, patients are able to start enjoying a soft food diet immediately after getting their new teeth as opposed to a liquid-only diet that may be prescribed by other providers.
Permanent Teeth in 24 Hours
For those who are missing teeth or who are experiencing poor dental health, relief can’t come soon enough. It shouldn’t have to take up to 10+ months for them to get their smile back. At Nuvia, patients get their permanent teeth 24 hours after the dental implants are placed. This is a vastly different experience than what traditional dental implant providers offer.
For Kerry and others, getting to enjoy and use their new smile so quickly is a significant benefit of Nuvia’s permanent teeth in 24 hours. They don’t have to schedule time for frequent return visits, experience the drawbacks of temporary teeth before getting their permanent set, or be limited to a liquid-only diet.

The Cost
Kerry reflected on how expensive dental work was before getting dental implants. “I can tell you that from when I first started having dental work done, the costs, for me, I spent in the eighties over a hundred thousand dollars on my mouth to have it not work”. For Kerry, dental implants just made sense.
Although he knew they would save him money in the long-run, he also recognized that they were an investment. Kerry was shocked at how other providers approached payment. “I was astounded at [the other provider’s] demeanor, honestly, because they just looked at me like I was a second class citizen if I wasn't able to write a check for the horrendous amounts they were quoting me. And at Nuvia, they never made me feel that way. They made me feel like part of the family”.

Would You Do It Again Considering the Problems With Dental Implants?
Reflecting on his journey, Kerry’s answer is a resounding yes. "It was an investment in me, and it's a decision I'll never regret," he declares. His story illustrates that while the road to recovery might have some bumps, the final outcome is incredibly free-ing and worth the effort.
